People love this breed for how friendly they are with people and other pets. As a companion, they are one of the most loyal dogs you will ever find. Training wise, they can be easy to deal with, but should always be on a leash as they love to hunt. When taken off leash, they can go for miles at a time picking up and tracking scents looking for small game. When they aren't hunting, expect them to be quite docile and sleeping.
The basset does like to be vocal at times. If they want something, they will let you know about it. From howls to small whines, they will often do what ever it takes to get love and attentions.
